I can remember back in the '70's driving to an almost empty Mono Lake. Looks like the effort to Save Mono Lake worked.

Reno Bound
Mark Mulder, Barry Wagoner and I are on our way to the Reno Air Races for our annual trek in Mark's RV. I love being on the road in an RV. I'm looking forward to seeing the Canadian Snowbirds as well as all the vintage aircraft. Life is good.

New iPad means new posts
Now that I've received an iPad, it will be much easier to post things to the blog. I've been using Facebook and Twitter as my main communication modes and will continue to do so, however, it will be fun to post interesting things here as well for posterity.

Michael Jackson Funeral

Paul's Motorcycle Accident
We’re counting our many blessings that Paul wasn’t hurt more than he was after being struck by a car on the freeway this morning. Other than a heavily bruised and strained back, deep arm laceration, and broken ankle, he's doing ok with the pain killers.
Interesting how it played out from my perspective: Jim Bolt calls me on the way to a funeral saying he’s looking at a pretty bad motorcycle accident on the freeway as he precedes to describe the damage. While talking to Jim, Sandy calls me so I tell Jim she’s calling and I take the call. She proceeds to tell me Paul’s been in a motorcycle accident and we need to go to the hospital right away (not knowing his condition). I call Jim back to let him know that the accident he saw was Paul and to pray. He told me later that he immediately pulled off on the side of the freeway to pray.
So, for a moment, I’m thinking the worse (Jim’s description was not promising...) and am simply perplexed as to what to do or think. Then it occurs to me to simply call Paul and see what happens. I call and he answers! He tells me he’s in an ambulance being taken to Holy Cross, that he’s in lot’s of pain but basically all right, considering. Phew. I then call Sandy to let her know and off we went to the hospital.

Around the World in Truck
Sandy and I went to a dinner party in Pasadena celebrating Noble Trenham’s trip around the world fifty years ago (1959-1962). They drove 80,000 miles for a total distance of 110,000 miles (including the water trips), hitting all 6 Continents. What a story they told (he went with one other person). They brought the truck for display. This is kind of like our trip in 1976 across the western United States...right guys?

Africa and Atheists
I have a good friend who is giving up his medical practice to become a missionary/teacher in Malawi, Africa. He’s gently prodding us to join him, but I don’t think we’ll join him for various reasons--as much as I think the work would be rewarding. He came to mind when I read this article this morning and thought I’d share the article as a good thought for the new year...

CORRECTION:... Becoming a missionary in South Africa. (He’s been going to Malawi, Africa for the last few years...)
