Consider me an expressive grandfather, father, husband, son, and friend. Although I'm an Air Traffic Controller by trade, I enjoy research, good stories, motorcycle riding, family/friend fun, sushi, and the Anaheim Angels (or is it the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim?). Theologically speaking, I'm a Christian who considers God to be sovereign, balanced, just, and rational. Thus a proper study of the Bible (objective, contextual, historical, and logical) reveals absolute truth to worship and live b

Change in the air
I’m in the “seriously contemplating FAA retirement” mode. A company (WCG) is offering me an instructional position with them to train new air traffic controllers. The pay is good, the job is rewarding, and the stress free work is intriguing. I would most likely be done with the FAA August 31 and be working for WCG September 1. My office is still at Burbank Tower with occasional trips to Los Angeles where they are building a Air Traffic Control Tower Simulator. I will help develop simulations for several towers (included other towers I’ve work--LAX and Santa Monica) including Burbank. No final decision, but I’m putting the paperwork in to get the ball rolling. Hours are flexible, fellow instructors are retired friends, and more opportunities can develop with this move. More to follow....
UPDATE: The decision is made, retirement will be July 31. Life is good. A review of the career to come.

Kentucky's Rich...
Time to leave Louisville, KY. While at the airport drinking Starbuck's finest, we ran into Larry Birkhead (Dannielynn's father...aka Anna Nichol Smith's baby). Although Dannielynn is beautiful and an exact image of Anna, she isn't near as pretty as Penelope Jane.
I took a few pictures from afar, but none of them good. Nevertheless here's one.

Not the Hair!
Penelope’s first few weeks has been a great blessing to all of us here in Louisville, KY. I have discovered, through body language, that hair is not her favorite thing...

Church in Kentucky
Everything in Louisville, Kentucky is over 100 years old. All the houses, colleges, city buildings, streets, and mindsets are old. Church this morning even takes me back to an old movie in an old church. This is Casey, Alicia, and Penelope’s church, Third Avenue Baptist Church which began over 100 years ago (albeit younger congregation). They are extremely friendly and very good in providing meals and support. Good times.

Penelope Jane Theule
We are grandparents to a beautiful girl, Penelope Jane Theule. We were out of town on FAA business when we got the call that she was in labor. 20 hours later, out she came (wish it was that easy...). the best chronicle of the event is at Alicia and Casey’s blog. They’ve posted pictures and, now, movies at Casey’s blog.

Chopper experience
Went to a friend’s wedding Saturday and he had a chopper in the garage. After oohing and aaawing it for some time, he looked at me and asked if I wanted to ride it. I actually took him up on the offer and the grin is still on my face. Good times.

BRMC
I asked a fellow controller what his favorite band is and he answered, “Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.” He added that he was going to a concert of theirs March 30th. After asking Kyle about the group, and hearing a favorable agreement of how good they are, I bought tickets to the concert. Kyle and I are going to bond with BRMC . Reviews to follow.
UPDATE: Turns out it was for people 18 years or older and Kyle is two weeks short. They wouldn’t let him in! I begged, pleaded, said I’d sign my life away, but they refused. Bummer. So I sold my tickets to a couple of guys who where desperate to get into the show. Such is life.
